Southern are delighted to announce the release of Labour of Love, the first recordings by Scott “Wino” Weinrich and Conny Ochs, on 19th March. Plus: A special box set collaboration with Exile On Mainstream!
The legacy of Wino in the world of heavy music is indisputable. In 2010, he turned to his acoustic guitar as a means to drive out some personal demons, which resulted in the September release of Adrift and the subsequent tour to accompany it.
Unusually, this would just be Wino, an acoustic guitar and a driver in a small passenger car, so the task of finding someone suitably laid back and able to live in such intimate and cramped conditions for six weeks fell to Andreas of Exile On Mainstream/Southern Germany. Andreas chose Conny Ochs, who he’d known for some time from his Baltic Coast beach parties. German troubadour Conny could serve as driver and also fill the boots of support act.
What followed was one part genius planning and three parts alchemy – from the start there seemed to be an extraordinary vibe between Wino and Conny and through music they discovered a similar outlook on life and art. By the end of the tour what had been two separate sets became more of a blur as Wino sat in on Conny’s songs and Conny in turn joined in on Wino’s. It was just the beginning of a relationship cemented by a shared vision and a labour of love.
Near the end of the tour we invited the two men to make their first recording together for our Latitudes series.
Labour Of Love is released in a limited edition of 500 copies on deluxe foil-stamped CD, and 500 180g heavyweight green vinyl in our new die-cut, foil-stamped sleeves. Both the formats are hand-numbered and include liner notes by Andreas Kohl of Southern Germany/Exile on Mainstream.
We are also super excited to have a very special box set available. A collaboration with Exile On Mainstream, who are releasing Wino & Conny’s new album, Heavy Kingdom, we’ve made only 300 copies! The hand-crafted cigar box includes CDs of Labour Of Love and Heavy Kingdom. The box is available only from the band on tour, from Exile, or from the Southern web shop. The clever mathematicians among you will have worked out by now that this means there are only 200 Labour Of Love CDs available in stores, so be quick like a bunny if you want one!
Both Labour of Love and Heavy Kingdom/Latitudes are available to order from our webshop now.
