Bardo Pond grace us with a divine Latitudes session

Yes that’s right,  those legendary space rockers aka Bardo Pond have joined the Latitudes ranks. The psychedelic journey of the Pond all began by two brothers, Michael & John Gibbons, sharing their interest in free-form noise, spreading the enthusiasm to an array of instrumentalists and vocalists. Their sound snowballed taking in musical roots from the realm of jazz and blues structures, not to mention New York’s No Wave movement championed by the likes of James Chance and the Contortions as well as the downtown Knitting Factory scenes. Now after eight acclaimed full-length albums, the band that often dabbles in an eclectic range of side projects have regrouped for another stormer in our very own Southern Studios.

The resulting session, Yntra, is a brilliant distillation of what the band do best into just three epic tracks. From the elaboration of the densest, textural landscapes to moments of pure, ecstatic clarity the sound is still incredibly thick with their battery of guitars and unrelenting Continue reading

The Tartufi Summer Stunner Tour

The lovely San Francisco trio better known as Tartufi are about to embark on a series of US tour dates as of this Saturday to bring their unique blend of blissful loops and pop-rock tendencies to the west coast.

Fresh out of the studio where they have just laid down the material for their next album, (due out early next year folks- mark it well in your 2013 diaries), what better way is there to celebrate than to come and share the joy and potentially some great new tracks with you?

For those of you lucky enough to be around the west coast, be sure to catch them on one of the following dates:

For more info on the band you can visit their groovy web site.

You can also grab their records and a lovely shirt from our webshop too!

And in case that wasn’t enough, here’s a link to another video to get you all excited.

Southern Shoppe at Fat Out Fest

The merry Southern elves are set to travel north at the end of the month (please insert Game of Thrones jokes here) for the incredible Fat Out Fest. Hosted by the excellent Manchester promoters Fat Out Til You Pass Out and taking place at the Islington Mill over in Salford they’ve allowed a minor takeover from the Southern team as we set up shop to peddle our wares.

Taking place over two days on the 25-26 August and featuring no less than Lydia Lunch, Jarboe and Mister Alexander Tucker who has now twice graced our Latitudes series as well as a whole host of local bands we are ecstatic to be invited to run our stall whilst listening to an incredible bunch of artists. We’ll be bringing along a range of goodies for you to buy and quite possibly coming up with some wonderful deals as well…. what they are, well, you’ll just have to turn up to find out!

Tickets are on sale now – just £15 for a day pass or £25 for the weekend. For over 30 bands that’s a silly price, but don’t complain- just get your ticket whilst you can!

Tickets are available onlineat the Fat Out shop and through wegottickets or from Manchester venues The Bay Horse, Common and the Mill.

For more news on the Fat Out crew, you can visit their site or keep up to date through facebook.

And if you can’t wait to pick them up from us at the Mill, head over to our web shop to get the Alexander Tucker & Decomposed Orchestra Latitudes session as well as the new Grumbling Fur release!
