Bell Gardens bring us another gorgeous cinematic postcard from their debut Full Sundown Assembly. “Nowhere” is a woozy ramble through the Bell Gardens palette of vocal harmonies, slippery guitar and subtle strings.
You can see why Q magazine has called Full Sundown Assembly “beautifully understated, slow and graceful…immaculately conceived.”
All the stairs lead nowhere
Nowhere I’ll ever be found…
We are very happy indeed to officially announce the forthcoming release of Bell Gardens’ single Through The Rain in July on Southern Records, to be followed by the full-length album Full Sundown Assembly in September.
Bell Gardens is the love child of Kenneth James Gibson (Furry Things, [a]pendics.shuffle) and Brian McBride (Stars Of The Lid), conceived over many late nights talking and playing for each other the songs that have inspired them over the years. Citing influences such as Jack Nietzsche, Phil Spector, The Beach Boys and Dennis Wilson’s solo recordings, both musicians harboured a burning desire to traverse a pop sound that often belies their respective backgrounds in the fields of experimental electronic, techno and minimalist music.
“Through The Rain” is a perfect introduction to the lush world of sound that Bell Gardens have carefully crafted through the use of real instruments and classic recording techniques. It’s a bright, floaty burst of musical sunshine and sweet vocal harmonies, with a deeply embedded vein of mystery and wistfulness.
The b-side of the single is a loping, steel-guitar infused interpretation of the late great Townes Van Zandt’s “Don’t Let The Sunshine Fool Ya”.
Two sides of a seven inch which won’t let you down, no matter what the weather. Grab a piece of Bell Gardens’ rainbow pie.
Yes, that’s right, Raised On Replicas have brought out a new video for “OMG” that’s just about as sharp as drummer Annalise’s fringe. Hailing from Brighton, the four piece Raised on Replicas were the second band to tack their name to the blossoming label Louder Than War, founded by John Robb (of Membranes and Goldblade fame) after he decided to extend the Louder Than War empire from the brilliant music website of the same name. Aiming to bring much deserved exposure to worthy bands with a series of 7 inch releases they may be small, but my oh my are they perfectly formed!
“OMG” is the first track on the band’s single, so less of the teasing and here’s the video for your viewing pleasure…
Raised on Replicas addition to Louder Than War’s catalogue features a total of two fantastic ditties- “OMG” and the flip-side “Sometimes”. This little gem is limited to just 300 7 inch black vinyl copies which you can treat yourself to in our shop, or as a download through Louder Than War.
Deadbeat Echoes had the honour of being the first band to release a single on Louder Than War’s new record label. Curated by John Robb, the label is promising a steady stream of exciting new music in seven inch form. Southern is proud to be partners with Louder Than War on the label and we’re having a grand old time getting our seven inch groove on.
Now Deadbeat Echoes, Louder Than War, and Southern are chuffed as Punch to present the ace video for “Surge Of Youth”, the A-side of the single. The band are fresh off their tour supporting Inspiral Carpets and will be announcing some more gigs soon. Meanwhile you can pick up their limited edition single from our shop, or buy the download from Louder Than War.
